Acer Aspire One AO751h-1442 11.6-Inch White Netbook - 3+ Hour Battery Life This instant

We got our Z520 yesterday. It is as small and as light as they say it is. Works fine.

The only issues I have are ones I think you'll find on about any new computer:
* Comes with over 20 programs of "bloatware" or software I'm not going to use. Mostly games, all kinds and flavors. Took me about 30 minutes to remove all of them.
* Although it comes with XP Home, you still need to install over 30 updates from Microsoft. (To do this, connect to the Internet, bring up a browser, and go to update.[...])

The price we paid,[...], is excellent today for a 160GB 10" Netbook equipped like this one. But you're getting a 11" Netbook for the price. Good deal!

Other items to consider purchasing if you get this device:
* A netbook sleeve. ([...])
* A small mouse. The touch pad works, but it's small and I find them harder to use than a separate mouse.
* An external hard disk. You can get these drives powered by the USB port for around $100 or less now. The 160GB is a great size, but there's no DVD so you might want to put DVDs onto a hard disk using some DVD-to-ISO software and then treat them as a DVD using some ISO-Mount software.

We're planning on using this netbook on our next trip for email and skype access, photo and movie backup, that sort of thing.

Ok, as another service, here's the software I'm planning on loading on this machine. All at no cost (all is save, and free to download and use):
* AVP. antivirus software.
* Ad-Aware by Lavasoft. Use this to remove non-virus spyware.
* Open Office. Does what I need for writing documents and working with spreadsheets.
* Skype. For instant messaging and video calls using the built-in camera.
* Picasa. From Google. A great program for managing your pictures.
* Firefox. My preference over Internet Explorer.
* PDF Redirect. Instead of printing out documents you want to save, print them to a PDF file and save that.
* MagicDisk. This is the software that lets you go DVD to ISO file and then treat the ISO as a mounted DVD.
* Unlocker. When you're trying to remove a USB stick or drive and Windows won't let you because a file is open, Unlocker will help.
