Lowest Price Acer Aspire One AO751h-1192 11.6-Inch Blue Netbook - 7 Hour Battery Life

>> Saturday, October 31, 2009

Needing this in order to avoid having to move my desktops uphill when it floods here (I live beside a river), and for its portability otherwise, I have an ethernet cable, a large widescreen monitor, the AC power supply, a PS/2 keyboard through a PS/2-to-USB adapter, a USB mouse, a short USB 'extension cord' (to preserve the third USB socket from wear due to heavy use), and a set of headphones, all plugged into this little wonder on my desktop. Its memory (1 Gb) and hard drive (150 Gb) are both more than both my large/bulky desktops put together. This baby is wonderful: all the normal full functionality of a desktop, plus the portability and small size of a laptop on a diet. Acer has always been a good brand name as well. So far I have no complaints, and the price was right. (My only regret was, a few days after committing to buy here at Amazon.com, seeing the same netbook at WalMart with another Gb of memory and another 1 Gb of hard drive, for a similar price....)
Fine product. Fine price. Fine deal.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AO751h-1192 11.6-Inch Blue Netbook - 7 Hour Battery Life.

Low Price Acer Aspire One AO751h-1145 11.6-Inch Red Netbook - 6 Cell battery

My husband bought this for me so I would give his computer back to him and for my ebaying I do. It's the perfect size for me since I run around the house a lot with it. It doesn't have a cd drivce but most items I've needed to download I've found through their sites or copied from the other computer to a usb. One downfall I found was how impossible it is to find a computer case for this size (11.6")-so I just made my own. Great product, fast and convenient-well worth the money. :-)Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AO751h-1145 11.6-Inch Red Netbook - 6 Cell battery.

Save ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-VU1X-PI 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook - 8.5 Hour Battery Life

This review will be divided it two parts: the first one will be about more general aspects (important stuff), and the second one will be more about little stuff (OCDers will like this one).

First of all, I would like to say that I replaced my main desktop with this little computer. This was something that just happened, I really didn't need the extra power. To decide whether this computer will satisfy your power requirements, I suggest being honest about which applications you use and how. For example, I do heavy internet navigation, heavy document editing and spreadsheets and statistical calculations, but I don't use CAD software, heavy photo editing software or do heavy sound editing, for example. I NEVER watch HD (1080p) videos, which as far as I know, is something this computer can't do.
With the apps I use, multitasking is not a problem at all. It is slower than my desktop sure, but it is not bothersome at all.

The Windows XP install it comes with is relatively bloatware-free, so out of the box this computer will feel faster than some fast full size notebooks with Windows Vista/7 and riddled with bloatware (I'm looking at you , Toshiba).

The computer itself is well-made and looks nice. However, the finish (I have the black version, thought the white one looked like a toilet) is incredibly glossy, which means it gets full of fingerprints almost instantly. A gray color option would have been great. I read somewhere that car wax is a temporary solution for the fingerprints (last three months). I will update this review if I try that.
The screen is the non-glossy type (in this particular version), which is great! Why would you want a display that you can't actually see?

Now, for the small stuff:

The leds are nice and not too bright at all. The hinges of the screen are as recessed as they can be, this means the screen can't be tilted backwards as far as on other computers. The black plastic on the screen bezel is different in color (under sunlight) and quality to that of the rest of the computer. It is cheaper, looks worse and scratches much too easily. The battery protrudes really slightly off the chasis, specially compared to other netbooks out there (MSI, ACER, Lenovo, Toshiba, etc...). This was kind of really important for me, so in that respect it is great.

Ubuntu: The new version of Ubuntu Linux, out on 10/29, works great out of the box. I'm using the RC right now. Every device works great, no need to install extra drivers or do weird configurations. Visual effects work perfectly and battery life is almost the same as on Windows (with the desktop effects turned on). I use it as my primary OS and is really great on this computer.

Battery life: 8.5 hours is a blatant lie. I get between 5.5 and 6.5 hours in normal conditions (half screen brightness, WiFi on, using Firefox, IM and OpenOffice), which is really good in a computer, but it is nowhere near what asus claims. Buy the "10.5" hour version if you want real 8.5 hours. With that said, I can use it intermittently on a day (on the subway, at college, at work) and it just gets through the day with a single charge.

All in all: a great computer, really balanced and incredibly useful and versatile. The only thing I would change is the glossy finish, but I can live with that. Great work Asus!Get more detail about ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-VU1X-PI 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook - 8.5 Hour Battery Life.

Discount Acer Aspire One AOD250-1580 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook - 7.5 Hour Battery Life

There are a lot of reviews, so I'll cover the highlights:

Did a lot of research between this, samsung nc-10, and a few other models, and settled on this one. Honestly, they're all pretty much the same, with the distinction of the newer models come with bluetooth. I was on the fence waiting for windows 7 to come preinstalled, but I got impatient, and I wasn't sure how long it would take before they would release it with windows 7. One change I made was to swap out the ram for a 2GB chip before I even started it, booted it up, and away I went.

Keyboard is a bit smaller than used too, but it was primarily for the wife, so not a big issue. I think I'd get used to after a few hours, just a little less wiggle room for touch typing than I was used to. There was some 'crapware', mostly games, and I'm not a fan of mcaffee, so removed & installed avast & comodo instead. Runs great, and as long as you get that it's not supposed to be a powerhouse, you'll be fine. The weight is very nice, my wife will be taking with her to hospital & other places, so compared to my old laptop (17" screen), its barely there!

We love it & think you won't go wrong on this. Glossy finish shows fingerprints, but it looks good. Screen is really nice, sharp, beautiful colors. Touchpad is seamless, which is nice so that you don't get crumbs in the cracks (sitting on the couch.. it happens), and build quality seems pretty solid.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD250-1580 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook - 7.5 Hour Battery Life.

Purchase Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

I saw this same netbook "On Sale" for 3 dollars more at a local store. It only had the
3 cell battery. This one has the 6 so it lasts a good long time. That was my main reason for buying it here. I already new this machine was a good price for the money as long as
you get the 6 cell battery. If you can get the 3 cell at a really good price (ie <250) then
thats ok.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.
