Acer Aspire One AO751h-1442 11.6-Inch White Netbook - 3+ Hour Battery Life This instant

We got our Z520 yesterday. It is as small and as light as they say it is. Works fine.

The only issues I have are ones I think you'll find on about any new computer:
* Comes with over 20 programs of "bloatware" or software I'm not going to use. Mostly games, all kinds and flavors. Took me about 30 minutes to remove all of them.
* Although it comes with XP Home, you still need to install over 30 updates from Microsoft. (To do this, connect to the Internet, bring up a browser, and go to update.[...])

The price we paid,[...], is excellent today for a 160GB 10" Netbook equipped like this one. But you're getting a 11" Netbook for the price. Good deal!

Other items to consider purchasing if you get this device:
* A netbook sleeve. ([...])
* A small mouse. The touch pad works, but it's small and I find them harder to use than a separate mouse.
* An external hard disk. You can get these drives powered by the USB port for around $100 or less now. The 160GB is a great size, but there's no DVD so you might want to put DVDs onto a hard disk using some DVD-to-ISO software and then treat them as a DVD using some ISO-Mount software.

We're planning on using this netbook on our next trip for email and skype access, photo and movie backup, that sort of thing.

Ok, as another service, here's the software I'm planning on loading on this machine. All at no cost (all is save, and free to download and use):
* AVP. antivirus software.
* Ad-Aware by Lavasoft. Use this to remove non-virus spyware.
* Open Office. Does what I need for writing documents and working with spreadsheets.
* Skype. For instant messaging and video calls using the built-in camera.
* Picasa. From Google. A great program for managing your pictures.
* Firefox. My preference over Internet Explorer.
* PDF Redirect. Instead of printing out documents you want to save, print them to a PDF file and save that.
* MagicDisk. This is the software that lets you go DVD to ISO file and then treat the ISO as a mounted DVD.
* Unlocker. When you're trying to remove a USB stick or drive and Windows won't let you because a file is open, Unlocker will help.

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1635 8.9-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 2.5 Hour Battery Life Immediately

I am not sure if I am going to send this back or not. Will start off by saying in the past I was partners in a small computer business. So, know some about computers. I realize I can not compare this to my lap and desktop computers.

This netbook takes a very long time to do everything. Start up, get anywhere, go online, shut down. I had read reviews saying how fast theirs were~ what is wrong with mine? I have gone into msconfig to try to stop a zillon preinstalls from loading. It still is very slow. I turn it on, can literally go to another room, get a cup of coffee come back and it is still booting.

There seems to be a delay every time I click the mouse~ like it is trying to figure out what to do. No way I could multitask on it. The hourglass spins and spins.

I have a linksys wireless home network. Every other computer in the house connects at 16-20m. I can not get the netbook to even 5m. Facebook is impossible to use. Almost slower then dialup.

I do like the size and ease of using. It is pretty and convenient; but feel it is so slow it is close to being worthless. I also move my pictures from my camera to this unit when I fill it up so doubles up as a photo storage unit on the road.

Taking pictures is a snap if I forget my digital camera and it runs Windows XP and not that slow Vista

Bought this laptop about 3 months ago. out of the package the screen had a slight dark fade in one spot as if someone had pressed the back of it with their finger, (the casing is flimsy on top of the screen anyway, so be careful). figured it was minor and didnt need immediate attention. Upgraded the OS to windows vista, it didnt recognise the webcam and had no driver support for it. Used it for work on the go, last week the screen went out completely. Have looked for parts all over and there are none unless you send it directly to sylvania under warranty, which I can not do because I need it in time for my job. I own a treatment center of kids... and use lots of computers for the kids. I bought 3 of these... the screens cracked within 3 months on one and within 6 months on another.
