Bought this laptop about 3 months ago. out of the package the screen had a slight dark fade in one spot as if someone had pressed the back of it with their finger, (the casing is flimsy on top of the screen anyway, so be careful). figured it was minor and didnt need immediate attention. Upgraded the OS to windows vista, it didnt recognise the webcam and had no driver support for it. Used it for work on the go, last week the screen went out completely. Have looked for parts all over and there are none unless you send it directly to sylvania under warranty, which I can not do because I need it in time for my job. I own a treatment center of kids... and use lots of computers for the kids. I bought 3 of these... the screens cracked within 3 months on one and within 6 months on another. I also own 3 Apple macbooks, 1 dell laptop and two IBM thinkpads... all for several years without any problems... MSI said I caused the damage and wanted to charge for the repairs... After 2 months this may qualify as one of the most irritating electronic device I own. All the features are great, good battery life, decent keyboard, okay touchpad (horribly stiff buttons though). The gripe is, after 2 months with this thing, it starts freezing on me every time I use it continuously for more than 2~3 hrs. For a comp that has 5~7 hrs battery life, that's a big problem. What's more irritating and somewhat funny is whenever it's about to freeze the speaker makes this terrible static screeching noise that makes using this thing in a library a real embarrassment if it freezes. The static noise actually appears quite often while trying to load online videos such as youtube stuff, and is generally guaranteed to appear if I load more than 2 videos at once. There's really something wrong with the audio hardware/software on this thing. Allow me to describe a typical freeze: The cursor becomes unresponsive and static noises come out. But when I press hard or knuckle that little space to the right of the touchpad (above the right speaker), the noise disappears and the comp becomes responsive again. As soon as I stop doing that it continues to freeze on me. I've update the bios and every single driver I can find on the ASUS website, and still no improvement. I don't know what the hell is wrong with this thing.
